International Women's Day

The Women's Day or Feast, as it is best known, is an anniversary that is celebrated every March 8th and symbolizes all the achievements that women have managed to obtain throughout history, both in the social, economic and political fields.

The first time it was said that there was no need for injustice, abuse, violence and discrimination against women was in 1909, in the United States. In Italy from the 1920s he remembers this day, linking it to the fact of a workers' collective death in a cotton shirt factory, a tragedy that actually occurred, but on March 25, 1911.

Among history, fantasy and reality, what is certain is that the International Women's Day was born in 1909, but thanks to the American Socialist Party which, on February 28, gave birth to a demonstration for women's right to vote.

We are then in 1917 when a group of women from St. Petersburg took to the streets to demand an end to the war.

With the end of the war, on 8 March 1946 it was celebrated throughout Italy and saw the first appearance of its symbol, the mimosa, a plant that blooms precisely in the first days of March. About 30 years later, the UN proclaims 1975 as the "International Year of Women" .
