Griffonia simplicifolia: a precursor of serotonin

By Anastore

Griffonia simplicifolia is a climbing plant native to the savannah and the African plains, where it has been used for thousands of years as a food and natural remedy.

Traditionally, aphrodisiac properties are attributed to Griffonia simplicifolia and as a tonic able to stimulate the body.

Recent studies have shown that its main property is acting on one of the main neurotransmitters of the brain: serotonin.

Griffonia, effective precursor of serotonin

Among its multiple effects, serotonin contributes to the regulation of hunger, sleep and mood. Therefore it is essential to cope with stress and counter the symptoms of depression.

The seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia are naturally rich in L-5-HTP (hydroxytryptophan), whose plant form is identical to the human one. This substance acts as a direct precursor of serotonin, of which it stimulates production, thus allowing to reduce depressive or anxious states and to enjoy an optimal sleep again.

Griffonia, a natural alternative to antidepressants

The hydroxytryptophan (L-5-HTP) of Griffonia simplicifolia does not have the side effects of synthetic antidepressants.

In fact, the latter inhibit the natural "re-uptake" of serotonin in brain synapses, causing a series of annoying unwanted effects such as increased blood pressure, palpitations, constipation, nausea, headache, and an addictive effect.

Despite being as effective as anxiolytics and synthetic antidepressants, Griffonia does not give rise to such side effects. It therefore reduces anxiety and depression without damaging the brain's natural functioning.

Other properties of Griffonia

Hydroxytryptophan (L-5-HTP) also has a positive effect in treating fibromyalgia. After observing that fibromyalgia is related to low serotonin levels, Dr. Juhl demonstrated the positive effects of L-5-HTP on the symptoms of this disease in October 1998.

L-5-HTP also has an anti-hunger effect and can facilitate the implementation of a slimming regime, as serotonin is able to reduce the desire for carbohydrate-rich, calorie-rich foods.

Numerous clinical studies carried out between 1984 and 1986 on hundreds of volunteers have highlighted the action of L-5-HTP as a remedy against migraines, reducing their frequency and intensity.

Where to buy quality Griffonia

Over the years, our body produces less and less serotonin. Furthermore, daily stress affects its natural levels.

Nature offers us a wide range of solutions to modern ills.

Griffonia is usually sold in the form of sachets containing the raw material (leaves and seeds with which to prepare decoctions) or titrated extract in capsules (vegetable or animal gelatin based).

Faced with a wide commercial offer, it is important to take into account the quality of the raw material and its packaging.

Anastore's Griffonia is a 100% natural extract, presented in the form of vegetable capsules, without Bisphenol A and not subjected to ionizing radiation.
