Laughter Yoga, Holistic Therapies and Cardiovascular Diseases

"Rice makes good blood" says popular wisdom and to tell the truth even at the World Cardiology Convention held in Paris in August 2011, the same cardiologists admitted that laughing 15 minutes a day is the best form of preventive therapy for cardiological diseases.

But this news did not deserve the front pages of newspapers even if the cardiovascular diseases are, with 44% of all deaths, in first place as a cause of mortality in Italy.

We know that prevention is better than cure and just as well we know that, in most cases, before taking any measures we expect the disease to manifest itself, preferably in a worrying way and, for example, if it is hypertension, the usually adopted remedy is to resign oneself to take drugs for the rest of one's days; Certainly, changing one's lifestyle would bring great benefits but very few people accept to renounce their habits to improve their quality of life.

And since, almost always, the taking of drugs causes side effects then you have to take other drugs to mitigate the side effects produced by the drugs that have "cured" you from hypertension.

But from what has happened to La Palestra della Felicità, a particularly interesting alternative seems to open up and this is the fact that has happened.

Sergio and Adelina, suffer from hypertension and are on drug therapy but Sergio and Adelina are two athletes and so are also followed by a sports doctor. Like many athletes, Sergio and Adelina also have another problem called competition stress, and since the sports doctor who follows them knows Laughter Yoga and its potential as an anti-stress technique one day in November 2011 invites them to try this technique to check if maybe they could get some benefit.

For Sergio and Adelina the first impact with Laughter Yoga is not particularly exciting "It seemed to us that we had arrived in an asylum", but trusting in the professionalism of their sports doctor they began to attend the Yoga sessions of the Laugh.

Having overcome the first impact and attending regularly, Sergio and Adelina, in a short time begin to enjoy the concrete benefits, during their competitions they feel more calm and more concentrated and soon their feelings are realized first with the 5th place in the world championships of Paris and then on the highest step of the podium in the Italian Championship of Smooth Unified which takes place at the end of May.

But the surprises are not over because while the stress of competition descended and without changing lifestyles, the values of pressure also went down and at the same time also the taking of drugs all until July 2012 when the attending physician, in agreement with the sports doctor, he decided to suspend drug therapy.

Sergio and Adelina, continue to regularly attend Laughter Yoga sessions that take place twice a week at La Palestra della Felicità but for almost a year now, they no longer take drugs to keep their blood pressure under control.

Happy day with a healthy laugh.
