How to make a massage oil for the body

Body massage oils are cosmetic products that are simple to prepare and very useful for softening and moisturizing the skin but also for conveying active ingredients that act on muscles or joints: let's see how to prepare a massage oil for the body in a few minutes.

Body massage oil: when to use it

Massage oil is a simple and inexpensive cosmetic product but very useful for the beauty of the skin and more.

Body massage oil can help to soften the skin and keep it hydrated, especially in case of dry skin or rough areas of the body such as knees, heels and elbows, or to soothe inflammation and skin irritation due for example to waxing or sun exposure.

Furthermore, the massage oil can be used to drain excess fluids and stimulate circulation, thus counteracting some imperfections such as cellulite and swelling of the lower limbs.

The massage oil can also be used to prevent the formation of stretch marks during adolescence and pregnancy or to firm the skin in case of loss of tone and elasticity of the tissues.

Finally, massage oils are useful for conveying active anti-inflammatory or pain-relieving lipophilic principles to be used in case of bruises, muscle tears, joint pains.

How to prepare a body massage oil

Preparing a body massage oil is very simple. First of all, in addition to the ingredients, a dark glass bottle must be obtained, which must be clean and dry. A funnel and a measuring cup will then be useful for dosing and pouring the ingredients more easily.

As for the ingredients, we will need a basic vegetable oil to choose based on the type of skin but also on the use we will have to make of the massage oil: for example, if we want an emollient oil to be applied after showering and that we absorb quickly we will opt for macadamia oil ; if instead we want an oil to be massaged longer we can also choose olive oil.

The base oil will represent about 80% of our massage oil to which we will add 20% of a more specific vegetable oil or an oil oil: the rosehip oil is for example excellent for preventing stretch marks, the oleolite of calendula is perfect for soothing irritated skin, avocado is particularly indicated for mature skin, black cumin oil purifies oily and combination skin while andiroba oil is an aid against osteoarticular pain.

To the mixture of selected vegetable oils we now add essential oils (no more than 1 drop per milliliter of oil): sweet orange, lemon, cypress are excellent against cellulite; that of lavender helps to soothe any kind of irritation; those of celery and carrot lighten the dark spots of the skin while the essential oil of gaultiera is anti-inflammatory and antidolorphic.

Warning : the use of essential oils is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.

Once the massage oil has been prepared, do not forget to add vitamin E (1 milliliter every 100 millimeters of oil) to prevent oil from becoming rancid and to label the bottle indicating the ingredients and the preparation date.

The massage oil is kept at room temperature and away from direct sources of light and heat; it should not be used if it smells of rancid, since it means that the fatty acids inside it have oxidized.
