Children and diaper: we answer the most frequently asked questions

We dissolve doubts and inaccuracies regarding diaper use and give some practical advice by answering the most common questions.

Children: diaper change

There are two simple - but fundamental - rules to learn when trying for the first few times in diaper changing: keep everything close at hand and never leave children alone on the changing table, even for a moment.

The objects needed for the change are very few: apart from the clean diaper, you need a little warm water and sweet almond oil . It is also important to keep a complete change at hand because sometimes you notice at the last moment that the body or another garment has become dirty.

The changing table is not even necessary; you can, for example, change the children on the bed, or even on a small table used for this purpose. The important thing is to do it in a warm and comfortable place.

When to change babies diaper?

The answer to this question is not so obvious. Obviously all the times that the diaper is soaked or the children have done poop: but what do you do at night? Some children have difficulty falling asleep and some parents are therefore exhausted. So sometimes the question arises of how to behave during the night.

Unfortunately there is no universally valid answer and it takes a little common sense: faeces can cause irritation to the delicate skin of newborns and, especially in girls, can be the cause of bad cystitis ; if you notice that the child has made poop it is therefore better to change it immediately, even at night and even if you risk waking it up.

The problem of pee volume can be solved by using the right diaper; there are some that are ideal for night rest as they keep children dry for up to 12 hours; in that case, therefore, it is not necessary, and perhaps even desirable, to change infants during the night, risking to wake them up; the exception is the case in which the diaper has failed and the child has evidently become wet.

How to avoid pee spills?

It is not just changing children often that you avoid finding them with wet clothes; you must also learn to choose the right diaper and put it right. To find the most suitable diaper for your children you often have to make some attempts and try more than one type. The diaper, then, must always be of the right size (neither too big nor too small).

To learn how to put it right it takes just a little experience; it may happen that you do not open the elastic part well around the legs, or it may happen to keep it too wide or, on the contrary, excessively tight; all factors that favor pee spills as well as the poor comfort of children.

Which products to use when changing diapers

Very few products are needed for the baby's intimate hygiene . At each change of the children 's diaper, just rinse the private parts under warm running water; if you cannot wash them in this way you can use a natural sponge and a basin full of water. No detergents are needed, especially when the children have only pee.

In case of poop, you can use a little Marseille soap. Detergents, even those specific for early childhood, can be aggressive to the delicate skin of newborns. Wet wipes should only be used in special situations, for example when traveling; why? Just read the INCI and you will realize how many potentially irritating ingredients they contain; of course, they are not all the same, but generally they are fairly aggressive products.

To keep the skin hydrated you can use simple sweet almond oil, which also acts as a soothing. In case of obvious skin irritations in the diaper area a zinc oxide paste can be used.
