Mythology

The chalcedony owes its name to the ancient Greek city of Chalcedon on the Bosphorus.

The blue chalcedony represents the elements of water and air among the ancients: it was considered the orator's stone and a magical symbol of atmospheric conditions.

In the magic of the Renaissance, the figure of a man with his right hand raised was carved on this stone and the amulet was brought to succeed in legal cases, as well as to have health and safety. In the sixteenth century it was suggested by magicians as an antidote to false ideas and fantasies and, for this purpose, it was pierced and carried around the neck.

The coppery chalcedony derives its name from the presence of copper and is known as "metal of Venus", as it represents on one hand love, beauty, sensitivity and harmony, and on the other balance and impartiality.

Pink chalcedony owes its color to the presence of manganese, considered a symbol of heat, fire and vitality.

The presence of iron is instead responsible for the colouration of red chalcedony, associated with Mars, synonymous with will, activity, dynamism and initiative.
