Headache, homeopathic natural remedies

By Dr. Francesco Candeloro

Headache is a pain in the head that may be of vascular, neuralgic or tensile muscle origin . Homeopathic remedies cure the symptoms when there is an acute phase, but they also act as a prevention of repetition of the disorders . Let's find out how to cure it.

Causes and symptoms of headache

Head pain, of very common occurrence, whose causes may be unknown (essential headache) or due to general or specific pathologies of the anatomical structures of the head both intra and extracranial.

Although the causes of headaches are multiple, it is nevertheless possible that at the base of them there is a common mechanism, consisting in a hypersensitivity of the peripheral and central receptors to mediators of the nervous impulse, also active on the vessel walls. From this it would derive that both headaches of vascular origin, due to vasospasm and subsequent dilation, and neuralgic headaches, can be traced to the same functional cause. In this section we will deal essentially with two of the most common forms of headache, namely the muscle-tension headache and the vasomotor headache.

Muscle-tension headache, also called gravative or posterior, due to its presentation and the typical initial location - occipital - originates from an excessive tension of the muscles of the face and neck often triggered by stressful situations, and between atmospheric changes, in particular cold-humid climate . In subjects who are affected, a typical verticalization of the cervical spine is highlighted.

The vasomotor headache, called fronto-temporal or anterior, due to its prevalent localization, is manifested by painful and violent crises sometimes preceded by premonitory symptoms (aura) and very often accompanied by digestive symptoms . The most common of these, with localization in general to a hemiface, is migraine.

Traditional medicine treats these two types of headache in a different but often almost exclusively symptomatic way, although it includes the muscle-tension form in anxiety-depressive syndromes, which therefore seem to benefit from taking direct drugs rather than relieving pain at that of mood.

In migraine, on the other hand, in addition to powerful vasoconstrictor drugs, attention is also paid to food, behavioral and hormonal circumstances that seem to favor the onset of crises, in order to precede them, or to intervene, however, as early as possible.

Homeopathic remedies against headache

Once again homeopathic cures have a twofold purpose, that is to say to intervene in an acute way to quickly mitigate the unpleasant symptoms of headache, with remedies which, as always, will take into account above all the circumstances in which crises are most likely to occur ( exposure to cold wind, drafts, dampness and wet hair, states of irritability, sorrows and frustration, excessive libations or characterized in quantity by foods that can favor the origin of disorders, psychic and / or physical surmenage, loss of sleep, local traumas, or efforts that have weighed on the area, etc.) thus succeeding, already starting from these states, to make a causal or etiological therapy which, precisely for these reasons, will soon prove decisive.

But even more, and even better, homeopathy provides the best services in preventing the recurrence of disorders, precisely because it is able to carry out a study that is always very thorough, and unitary, of the person, which will allow to verify overall conditions - of the whole organism that is - able to favor the continuous repetition of disorders.

Furthermore, the advantage of homeopathic care will also be that which, unlike the traditional ones, mostly only symptomatic, trying to always act on the possible causes of the disorders (triggering circumstances, or predisposing overall conditions) will not be burdened by that phenomenon of rebound ( rebound) which occurs upon the suspension of any simple symptomatic, and which in these cases will therefore favor the recurrence of symptoms.

Among the homeopathic remedies most often used in acute, we remember besides the always valid Belladonna (throbbing headache aggravated by light, noise and movement), Nux vomica in those cases caused by excessive libations or excessive consumption of alcohol, coffee, as well as, however, exposure to cold wind.

Dulcamara, the main remedy for all the disorders caused by exposure to wet weather; Rhus tox for the consequences related to excessive fatigue of the part and Arnica, instead, as a remedy for traumas, also dated, of the cervical region; Actea racemosa, finally, is often indicated in crises that relate to women's menstruation, and in particular that are accentuated with increasing flow, unlike Lachesis in which crises, on the other hand, diminish in the same circumstances.
