Yoga Festival Milan 2011: be the change you would like

This is not meant to be the usual article that illustrates a festival program and encourages you to visit this or that stand, explore a teacher's lesson rather than another's workshop.

We want to get to the bottom and try to understand together with Giulia Borioli, creator and director of the Yoga Festival, what value an event of this kind takes in a context like the one in which we are living.

"Be the change you want to see in the world", the 6th edition of the Milan Yoga Festival finds inspiration in Mahatma Gandhi's historic phrase, which finds inspiration. This general climate of apparent decline (economic, political, international) seems to be opening up new possibilities. Possibility of a change of the world as we know it; the novelty concerns a new way of putting oneself also with respect to others, at work. A slower, harmonious and delicate way. This is also the nature of the change you imagine and the reason why you chose this sentence?

We have reworked the phrase of Mahatma Ghandi in "I AM THE CHANGE I WANT", this is the idea of the festival. Change with a capital C is already active, we are in it and we verify it every day, but without our inner change, we will not be able to manage and control its strength.

We could succumb, or we could learn to better manage our being in the moment, in life. It's up to us to decide. Yoga, in this historical moment, is once again a ductile, secular, profound instrument, capable of giving answers. Here is the reason for the theme chosen this year. Next, we'll talk about how to "start over".

How did you get the idea of the Yoga Festival? When did this intuition that generated the intention come?

YogaFestival was born from my personal experience as a fashion journalist, workaholic, who approaches Yoga to recover from childbirth and finds herself in a more human, harmonious, active dimension. The benefits of a Yoga practice are immediate, the influence in one's life is forever.

I wanted to create a chance for everyone to access my own beneficial experiences in the hope that by improving the individual, making an improvement from below, society can also improve.

We are at the sixth edition. How has the festival changed in recent years?

We are at the sixth edition in Milan, the fifth in Rome, the second in Merano, the first in Catania. YogaFestival increases and spreads throughout the country but remains attached to the initial formula: three experiential days, where to understand, learn and practice Yoga at its highest levels, with quality teachers recognized all over the world.

What is Ethical Events?

Ethical Events is a newborn network of events with strong ethical connotations (they must respond to some identifying points such as having spaces for children, percentages of information, culture, experience, being sustainable in the stands, recycling, etc.) that help and support the promotion by putting in common contact baggage and promoting each other.

At the moment entry is free, but the new entries are examined so carefully that to date we have not yet found who to let participate.

Yoga in times of crisis. We wonder how the practice changes and how we sit and meditate when everything around us seems to fall. Are there any lectures, lectures or lessons that touch on this theme in the program?

Yoga is always the same philosophical system encoded by the mystic Patanjali over a thousand years ago. The way of practicing, proposing the practice changes over the centuries. We are no longer in the time of Milarepa where retiring to solitude on the top of a mountain was a final stage in life.

Today to practice Yoga you have to do somersaults between one commitment and another. Here at the festival we propose the ancient discipline with a new language that uses music, projections, conducted meditations, dance, sport to talk about Yoga.

What is the idea that, through this festival, you would like to give yoga to a layman, a total fast of asanas and pranayama ?

The idea that a festival visitor must take home is that his life, with Yoga, can improve . And improving oneself also improves the other.

Give plenty of space to children. Is there a reason for the underlying reason? What is Yoga First Steps?

Children are our future, and we must instill in them fundamental ethical values that serve them as a basis for building a new, fairer, fairer, more sustainable world.

Yoga Primi Passi is a small, successful invention that we have experimented in Rome: an area managed by qualified teachers ready to give information, demonstrations, small practices, even individual ones, to those who just don't know about Yoga.
