The heel spur is a bone formation on the heel, usually associated with pain either at rest or after walking or loading the lower limbs.

The causes of the heel spur formation are to be found in an inflammation of the Achilles tendon or the musculature of the sole of the foot, called plantar fasciitis.

These two causes determine the inflammation that generates the bone formation called spurs or heel spurs, a bone formation that can occur on the lower part of the calcaneus or behind it.

Plantar fasciitis and inflammation from the Achilles tendon can occur in the following cases:

> S or repeated and traumatic excitement of the foot, as can happen to those who practice the race at a competitive level or even amateur but without the adequate knowledge of the mechanics of the race and without adequate training;

> Unsuitable lifting either during running training or even during the normal daily routine: shoes too high or too low, with orthotics not suitable for possible pronation or supination of the foot, heels, shoes too tight;

> S drains and injuries of various nature to the muscles of the foot;

> P postural and walking problems, back pain and knee problems or, in general, lower limbs;

> Exs and muscle weakness ;

> Inflammatory diseases affecting the bones, such as osteoarthritis.

The main symptom is the presence of pain both at rest and during walking.

Sometimes it can also be associated with swelling and edema, when plantar fasciitis or heel pain in the acute phase is present.

The heel spur can be diagnosed only by an X-ray that verifies its presence.

Heel spine: natural remedies

The heel spur, being a bone formation, can only be removed surgically.

But many remedies allow to prevent it, acting on the inflammations that generate it, and relieve pain when it occurs.

> The main remedy is rest : the heel spur is the result of bone formation over time.

Its formation is not sudden and without alarm bells : when in fact we ignore painful signals related to heel, inflammation of the plantar fascia and the Achilles tendon, for a long time, the inflammation itself leads to the bone formation of the spur.

> To reduce inflammation it is then advisable to make clay baths with the foot: two glasses of ventilated green clay melt in a basin of warm water.

The foot is immersed and held until the water becomes cold.

In cases of particularly acute pain and swelling, clay packs are also fine: a compress with water and clay is formed, covered with a clean cotton cloth and wet with clay water, and applied to the aching part of the foot.

It remains until it dries and at least for 30 minutes.

> A natural cream based on mountain arnica can also be used to disinfame the painful area : it allows the muscles to relax and is a natural pain reliever.

It is also important to mobilize the ankle and foot joint to prevent the muscular contractions resulting from pain from exacerbating the inflammatory situation.

The bones of the foot, although those of the calcaneus are welded and apparently not very mobile, instead present joints whose mobility can prevent and treat the symptoms due to the heel spur.

> Stretching the calf muscles and the sole of the foot are also useful remedies and useful prevention.

> The plantar massages relax the aching foot and, by improving the circulation, prevent the precipitation of salts that determine bone formation.

> Finally it is possible to act against the pain caused by the heel spur by taking anti-inflammatory substances with food : the main ones are turmeric, ribes nigrum, and natural anti-inflammatories.
