Vegan restaurants

Vegan restaurants, why?

Eurispes informs us that more and more Italians are choosing vegetarianism and veganism. From about 7 million who are now, it is estimated that 30 million people in 2050 will adopt a "veg" feeding style . This leads to an increase in the demand for vegetarian products, but not only, also an increase in opportunities linked to the world of those who choose the path of respect for animals.

We think primarily of the number of vegan and vegetarian restaurants that could be born in a few years. There are countries in Europe, such as in the North and in Germany, for example, where vegan and vegetarian restaurants are now found very easily, practically everywhere. In Italy, however, these are still few, especially in the big cities. In fact, we estimate about 300 uniquely vegetarian restaurants, located mainly in the Center-North and in the big cities. Only vegans will not be half! Generally speaking, vegan and vegetarian cuisine go hand in hand.

The Mediterranean diet is almost veg

Almost 10 million meals are consumed in Italy every day outside the home. Considering, according to Eurispes estimates and surveys, that in about fifty years one Italian out of two will be practically vegetarian, it is easy to understand how the vegan and vegetarian cuisine business is destined to grow, and consequently also the number of vegan restaurants.

Why do you choose to become veg? Perhaps for ethical, health or spiritual reasons, perhaps for all three things put together, perhaps to lend a hand to the Earth, whatever the motivation, it is clear that Italian cuisine is already set up to offer a lot to people who make this choice. The Mediterranean diet lends itself much to spreading the veg culture, it is to be considered in fact a fantastic dispenser of vegetarian products, with seasonal fruits and vegetables and various methods of preparation that are accompanied by cereals, such as pasta, rice and barley.

Where you can find vegan restaurants

In fact it is still quite difficult to find uniquely vegan restaurants in our country, most of them are vegetarians and vegans, blogics or macrobiotics, or vegan-friendly, or they are normal restaurants that only occasionally offer food and veg themed evenings. And they are mostly found in big cities.

In Milan, where it seems there are more than in other places, often assimilated to Indian restaurants, you come across, for example, in the La Sana Gola restaurant, which is also a cooking school, and we also find La Vegan, and Bio and You, for example, who are both vegetarian and macrobiotic, but there is no shortage of Russian salad and vegan carbonara. More difficult seems to be the search for only vegan restaurants in Rome, where there is for example the Tidirò or Il Cucchiaio di Legno. A list of vegan restaurants and veg-friandly delicatessens can also be found on the site of the Società Vegetarian.
