Ecopsychology: when the psyche meets nature

What is ecopsychology

As the name suggests, ecopsychology is born from the encounter between ecology and psychology; it is therefore a discipline that deals with the world and the person at the same time, with the aim of favoring a more harmonious reciprocity between man and the environment . Ecopsychology observes how the need to get in deeper contact with oneself is closely linked to the need to approach nature more authentically. This discipline invites us to respect our psyche as much as the environment; to focus on your own personal well-being without forgetting the relationship with everything around you; that is, with the family, social, humanitarian and natural context to which man belongs.

Ecopsychology tries to answer the most important questions that humanity has always asked itself: who are we and what is the deep bond that binds us to others or to the Earth that hosts us? What is the purpose of existence? What is our place in the world? In an attempt to find an answer to these very complicated questions, it is proposed to change, on a collective level, the idea of man as the sole master of the earth and to transform it into an idea of man as an active and participant member of the life of the world, a world without masters, a world with more collaboration.

To whom is the ecopsychology addressed?

Ecopsychology was born in the therapeutic field and is therefore addressed first of all to psychologists and psychotherapists, but it is widening more and more trying to involve also other professionals, such as teachers, educators, environmental educators and all those who by profession deal with growth personal or nature.

In reality, this discipline is trying to address more and more directly also to all the people who want to begin a path towards a deep ecological awareness and to strengthen the knowledge of themselves.

In fact, at school of ecopsychology one learns to relate in a more authentic way with others and with nature, as well as to better manage one's own resources: personal resources and those of the Earth that hosts us.
