Cereals, the main food of India, are also the basis of Indian sweets. In particular, rice and semolina are used. Another ingredient widely used in the preparation of Indian sweets, especially in the south is coconut .
We offer two recipes inspired by typical Indian sweets.
1. Coconut squares
Ingredients:
> 250 grams of milk cream
> 250 grams of coconut flour
> 1 teaspoon of cardamom seeds
> 1 tablespoon of ghee
> 2 and a half cups of cane sugar
> 2 cups of water
> 1 tablespoon of chopped almonds
> 1 tablespoon of chopped pistachios
Preparation : pour the milk cream and coconut flour in a saucepan, add the ghee and mix everything together, stirring over a very low heat; add cardamom.
Prepare a syrup separately with water and sugar; Once you have obtained a rather thick syrup, add the previously prepared cream.
Grease a sheet of baking paper placed on a baking sheet and then put the chopped nuts, then pour the mixture. Allow to cool and cut into squares with a knife.
2. Pie with ginger and cinnamon
Ingredients :
> 150 g of cane sugar
> 1 small cup of sunflower oil> 200 g of flour
> 1 egg
> 1 dl of hot water
> 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
> 1 teaspoon of grated ginger root
> 1/2 sachet of baking powder
> 1 pinch of salt
Preparation : beat the egg until it becomes creamy, add the sugar, oil and then all the other ingredients, mixing well, preferably with an electric mixer.
Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes.
These two Indian desserts are only ideal on cold afternoons, to indulge in a cuddle. They go well with many types of tea, especially the cake with ginger and cinnamon, which is perfect paired with a cup of black tea flavored with vanilla.
Obviously, as we are talking about sweets, we are talking about rather sugary and rather caloric foods: to try yes, but in moderation.
