Essential oils for foot care

The feet, while remaining hidden for the most part of the year by footwear, are as important as the hands that, on the other hand, are always visible.

Taking care of your feet means taking care of your roots, and a part of your body whose full functionality we cannot give up.

The feet, despite having a thicker and more resistant skin than that of the rest of the body, still need targeted treatments that preserve their beauty and health.

Foot health can depend on many factors, not least hygiene and products used for the skin, joints, and even toenails.

Taking care of the feet is of great importance, both in the summer, when they are at sight, and in winter, when they are forced into footwear for many hours and often forgotten.

Taking care of your feet throughout the year keeps this part of your body healthy.

Essential oils can help the beauty of the skin on the feet and also help to cure some minor inconveniences in which this part of the lower limbs, often abused and mistreated, may occur.

Essential oils for blistering

Blisters can arise due to unsuitable footwear, whether used for a few steps or for prolonged marches.

The blisters on the feet are very painful, and tend to heal hardly due to the positions in which they are found. They can limit walking and get worse until they become infected.

Patches and bandages often do not help, because they do not allow the bladder to breathe, dry and then heal.

In the case of blisters on the feet, the essential oil of lavender can be used: a drop on the bladder can cause burning, but it is a valid method to prevent the bladder from becoming infected.

Essential oils in case of calluses

Corns are a thickening of the skin. There are calluses especially where the shoe rubs more on the skin.

Sudden changes in temperature lead to the formation of calluses on the heel and soles of the feet. The calluses form gradually, do not appear suddenly, so the sooner action is taken and better results will be obtained.

The essential oil of marigold allows to soften the beauty and to make the callus less painful: it pours a drop on the callus and rubs.

Essential oils for aching feet

The essential oil of marigold is useful against corns and calluses, but also on aching feet .

When the joints and the bones of the foot are in distress it is possible to use a mixture of essential oil of marigold (30 drops) in 50 ml of basic massage oil (avocado or jojoba if you have particularly dry feet, or a simple and most common sweet almond oil).

Use this mixture whenever you feel the need, especially in the evening and when your feet hurt. The feet are massaged with slow, caressing movements until the oil is absorbed.

Essential oils in case of black nails

Nails can become black due to trauma . Often then, as it grows, the nail can also come off.

In the case of black toenails due to beatings and bruises, the essential oil of hyssop is used : a drop under and above the nail until, once grown, it comes off or can be cut.

Essential oils can also be used for foot baths : if you want a relaxing foot bath, use 7 drops of essential oil of lavender or geranium in a teaspoon of honey, then dissolve in the basin of hot 5 liter water, while if you want a revitalizing foot bath you can use essential oil of peppermint and rosemary, in the measure of 3 drops in a teaspoon of honey to melt for every liter of water.
