May 13 Mother's Day: how to spend it naturally

Mother's Day, when it is born

Mother's Day, which is celebrated today on the second Sunday of May, has a controversial and very diverse origin, relating to the initiatives and countries in which it is celebrated.

In Italy the "National Mother and Child Day" was celebrated for the first time on December 24, 1933, within the framework of the Fascist government's family policy; for the occasion, there was also the awarding of the most prolific mothers in Italy.

Far from the old intentions, the true and modern Mother's Day as it is understood today originates from an idea of the then mayor of Bordighera, Raul Zaccari, who, in 1956, took the initiative to celebrate Mother's Day at the local Zeni Theater.

The following year the Feast was welcomed and transformed also in a religious sense by the parish priest of a town in the province of Assisi. From then on, albeit with some initial disagreement or reticence, Mother's Day begins to take hold almost everywhere in the peninsula; for the occasion, we offer little thoughts to mothers, we recite poems and do odd jobs at school.
