World AIDS Day was born in 1988 at the World Summit of Health Ministers on AIDS prevention programs. After the event both governments and international organizations and associations from around the world have adopted the date and established the official celebration.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the first celebration. Raoul Bova is the patron saint of the day and on the website you will find all the information on the 2013-2014 campaign to fight AIDS .

The Ministry of Health website also published new HIV / AIDS treatment guidelines on the use of antiretroviral drugs and on the diagnostic-clinical management of people with HIV infection, drafted by the Ministry of Health at the National AIDS Center of the Institute of health, in collaboration with the National Commission for the fight against AIDS, the Council of Associations for the fight against AIDS, the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, are addressed, in particular, to infectious diseases and specialists involved in the multidisciplinary management of the person with HIV.

Events in Italy and aims of Unaids

Many events on the Italian territory such as in Milan, where different associations are moving, such as the LILA Milan Foundation non-profit organization, ALA Milano onlus, which in collaboration with ASL MILANO promotes the SEXFACTOR Project, ASA Milano onlus, Department of Infectious Diseases of the IRCCS San Raffaele and of the external premises of LABORAF - Diagnostics and Research San Raffaele, Associazione Anlaids onlus. Also Barclays and ANLAIDS Section Lombarda have created a special info-point for December 1st at the Barclays headquarters.

And here you will find all the other events related to the Lombardy region for the Day against HIV.

On the occasion of the world day, the Sapienza University of Rome organized a conference dedicated to the World Day against HIV, in collaboration with Cesvi - a humanitarian association committed for more than ten years to combating the disease in Africa - to inform, especially young people, on prevention and risks of disease transmission, for example from an HIV-positive mother to a newborn.

It is good to continue to talk about prevention funds as well, since, if on one hand Italy has a significant record of seropositivity (about 140 thousand HIV-positive and over a thousand deaths a year), on the other hand, UNAIDS 'purpose is clear : to beat HIV by 2030 and to do this it is necessary to inform and put people in a position to understand and protect themselves.

The UNAIDS is the United Nations AIDS program that in July of this year, during the 20th Melbourne International AIDS Conference, documented the intent to "reduce the distance by 2020 with the 90x90x90 target ", That is the diagnosis of 90% of HIV infections, access to therapies for 90% of patients and zero viral load in 90% of cases of seropositivity. In 2013 more than 19 billion dollars were allocated.

Finally, we report a site in English, , a distributed computing project developed by the Olson Laboratory at the Scripps Research Institute . The project, using the computing power provided by users who choose to share their Internet connection, aims to use simulation techniques using biomedical software to find ways to treat and / or prevent the spread of AIDS and the virus HIV.
