Schizophrenia and mental health on the World Day

Abroad, the anniversary already has a certain resonance, while in Italy it is only now that it is beginning to make room for itself. This is World Mental Health Day, which this year focuses on the topic of schizophrenia .

The emotions of those who find themselves living next to people with this diagnosis are different and often have to do with fear. Fear actually immobilizes us, takes us away from a true dimension of love, and discrimination against people who are declared mentally unstable is something that is never talked about but that should be tackled and this day is the occasion.

In detail, the themes are: freedom from violence and abuse, freedom from discrimination, autonomy and self-determination, inclusion in community life, participation in decision-making.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has organized specific documentation on schizophrenia for this day. 21 million people have been diagnosed schizophrenic and several studies show the incidence of early death in these people. In fact, a discomfort that affects the serenity of the mind acts and influences all vital functions.

Know about schizophrenia

Schizophrenia falls into that group of disorders called somatoforms, that is, that often also present physical manifestations. It is characterized by sudden changes in mood, personality and behavior .

Schizophrenics show the first symptoms of the disease between the ages of 13 and 15, although personality disorders such as shyness and communication difficulties can be recognized much earlier. It is rare that the disease occurs after the age of 45, while the psychopathology called infantile schizophrenia that appears in puberal and prepubertal age is very particular.

It seems that in addition to a specific genetic vulnerability factor there is also an external factor due to environmental and social stress . Nutritional deficiencies also play an important role, such as the lack of thyroxine and magnesium.

It is no coincidence that many schizophrenic disorders are treated with vitamin and amino acid complexes as well as, obviously, with adequate psychological support .

Many herbal remedies are excellent in case of schizophrenia: among the most famous is the cypress, also used against depression. Moreover, basil, bergamot, cedar, Roman chamomile, sclarea, geranium, juniper.
