Wine, movement and well-being of the heart

The benefits of wine

Consuming wine in a conscious way helps the body on many fronts. Let's see some of them:

  • First of all, wine helps the brain . It seems that a good wine drunk in moderation can be a good defense against Alzheimer's . This is due to the polyphenols, which would inhibit the development of the plaques at the base of the disease. In this the wine is very similar to other foods that you should always have: tea, nuts, berries and cocoa .
  • Wine also increases Omega-3 levels. A glass of red for women, two for men, increases omega-3, thus protecting from coronary heart disease. The study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also suggests that additional protection can come from fatty acids present in fish.
  • Drinking wine reduces the risk of lung cancer . In an article in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, researchers say that men who consume one or two glasses a day reduce their risk of lung cancer by 60% .
  • Not only: it seems that wine is a good "pass" for longevity and allows men to circumvent the risk of prostate cancer .

What does science say about wine?

Drinking wine and doing physical activity

It is not an unlikely dichotomy, but a real cure for the cardiovascular system. Academic studies confirm this.

Researchers at the University Hospital of Olomouc, in the Czech Republic, highlighted how the benefits of wine can be multiplied at a cardiovascular level in people who choose to do sports regularly, or who practice physical activity during the week.

Milos Taborsky, head of the study, carried out the study on 146 people with mild to moderate cardiovascular risk. To complete the study, a Czechoslovakian wine was chosen: half of the group took on Pinot Noir (red), the other half Chardonnay (white), both from the same vintage. Both groups were also asked to fill in a periodic questionnaire on the physical exercise practiced and on the possible intake of drugs. The researchers defined moderate consumption according to World Health Organization standards: 0.02 L for women and 0.03 L for men, not more than five times a week.

Both groups benefited from a reduction in "bad" LDL cholesterol. The "good" HDL cholesterol registered an increase in subjects whose physical activity was regular and constant (at least twice a week).

It would therefore be a winning synergy .

In fact, it appears that "... the importance of moderate consumption of wine by athletes intensely subjected to fatigue and stress is confirmed by the sedative and euphoricizing properties that contribute to the maintenance of psychophysical strength. The protective action of the cardiovascular system of moderate wine consumption is equal to that of moderate exercise. " (MR De Jaham and J. Bordelais).

Resveratrol, which is found in wine, is the focus of several scientific studies, but what is it and what are its potential benefits?

Hospital art therapy

Hospital art therapy: when is it born? The art therapy in the hospital develops practically starting from after the second world war. The first real art therapy groups in the hospital were born in Great Britain in 1942 for tuberculosis patients and initially the method was that of an art school. Thanks to Adrian Hill, artist and psychologist himself, the term art therapy is born, a practice that begins to spread in countries with a strong psychoanalytic and psychiatric tradition (Great Britain, France, Germany and the United States) in response to a need for renewal of methodologies in the peda...
