The eco-fabrics

What are eco-fabrics?

What exactly is meant by eco-fabrics? The eco-fabrics are fabrics and materials which, like the specific word itself, have the presupposition of being ecological. For a fabric, being ecological means to be born, grow and develop thanks to completely sustainable cultivation, processing and modeling techniques, free of harmful chemicals, for example, or any kind of exploitation, be it human or environmental.

The eco-fabrics are those fabrics that are processed and treated in a natural and organic way, both in their production and in the dyeing phase. The yarns used are all grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. The colors that color in a natural way are many, different depending on the country of origin, among these we remember: the walnut husk, for the tones on the brown-green, the calendula, the saffron, the turmeric, for the yellow, the indigo for blue, blueberry, poppy, elderberry for red-violet, madder root for bright red. Here is also, for those who want to try their hand, some advice to dye fabrics in a natural way by the Queen of Soap.

Among the materials that fall within the ecotextiles sector we find organic cotton, jute, nettle, silk, cashmere wool, yak, merino, hemp, felt, eucalyptus fiber, even millet shells and spelled chaff to produce not only articles for the clothing, but also for the home and for the bathroom. Eco-fabrics are also fabrics made with synthetic fibers, such as Renew Plus, the first eco-fabric signed by Jersey Lomellina, a 100% recycled polyamide techno-fabric, produced through the recycling of waste and scrap from industrial processing, together with the recovery of waste materials such as fishing nets, fluff (shaved hair from disused carpets) and tulle, otherwise destined for landfill.

Eco-textiles and textiles

The textile industry is becoming more and more organic: after Biofach, the international organic fair recently held in Nuremberg, in Italy too the green issue in clothes is becoming more and more heard. If it is true that in Germany there are more than one hundred brands that sell eco-fabrics, it is also true that, for a couple of years, in the Peninsula, the percentage of demand is growing more and more. This has meant that, near Bergamo, the bio-eco textile market fair "Per filo e per sogno" has been conceived . Indeed, after the success of the first edition of the eco-textiles fair held in Ponte San Pietro on 29 May 2011, it was decided to propose a second winter meeting on 16 October, and a third on 13 May 2012.

Reggio Emilia is the second city that will follow its example next April. This gives proof that a certain sensitivity and a certain attention are also maturing in Italy in the field of purchases of eco-fabrics. We go from the production of simple t-shirts, to socks, trousers, shirts, tablecloths and furnishing accessories of all sorts.

Products made with eco-fabrics

The variety of eco-fabrics and eco-clothes that can be found on the web is endless. It starts, for example, from the natural cashmere of Kyo, which also produces products with nettles, to the organic almond caftans, to the recovery of Brianza sheep to produce the models of the Lombard pastoral tradition, such as tabarri, jackets and vests.

There are also sites, such as Canvas, which offer ceremonial dresses in natural fibers designed to measure.

Or if you want colored jeans with indigo and all Italian you can contact Ecogeo. And again Ekrù's eco-heaters, Natura socks and baby products and Made in No. underwear are nice for the winter .

Finally, for the summer, don't miss the ecobikini.
