Daytime sleepiness? Let's try 3 herbal remedies

April sweet sleep ... Often, especially in Spring, we are surprised by daytime sleepiness . A tiredness that accompanies us from the morning to awakening. We would pay gold to be able to "crush a refreshing nap", but most of the time it cannot be done, due to daily duties and tasks.

Sometimes this form of asthenia is caused by a liver that is too intoxicated and weighed down by winter, from a protein diet that has warmed us in the coldest months, but which now needs to be lightened and purified.

In other circumstances, sleepiness is not simply linked to climate change but to more serious problems, and we enter the field of hypersomnia, which as such must be investigated and treated appropriately.

In cases instead of seasonal tiredness and drowsiness it is therefore good to start with some detoxifying remedies of the liver, propaedeutic phase also for those who intend to start a weight loss diet for the summer.

To counter the urgent need to sleep during the day we can resort to some phytotherapeutic remedies, titled and standardized (otherwise they would not be definable as such), which support us, stimulating also our intellectual and concentration abilities.

Guarana ( Paullinia cupana )

Guarana is a plant listed among the excellent remedies against daytime fatigue and sleepiness . The active ingredient that distinguishes it, guaranine, is the counterpart of caffeine, with stimulating and reactivating properties.

In fact it is an inducer of release of catecholamines, hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline, which give a boost to the metabolism, reactivating it to counteract fatigue. It is good to take guarana in the morning and at lunch time, so that it performs its energizing effect during the hours of greater effort and not over-excitement in the evening hours, appointed to pre-sleep relaxation.

A tip: accompany the discontinuation of the phytotherapic treatment gradually, halving the daily doses, so as not to cause metabolic shocks to our body once the treatment is complete.

Take the guarana in dry extract as the standardization and titration are accurate: 2 tablets per day (breakfast and lunch). Avoid taking it in the late afternoon or evening hours.

Guarana may have side effects and is contraindicated in cases of hypertension, eupeptic ulcers, hiatal hernia, hyperthyroidism.

Drowsiness? Here are the possible causes and 6 useful tips

Ginseng ( Panax Ginseng )

Ginseng is a plant of Asian origin, and the extract is derived from its roots, whose shape resembles the human one. It is a sort of panacea for many ailments, thanks to its revitalizing, probiotic, hypoglycemic, antipyretic and antioxidant properties.

Like Guarana, also Ginseng has adaptogenic properties: the active ingredient that distinguishes it is the ginsenoside, which together with other components of the phytocomplex acts on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, stimulating the release of the ACTH hormone which in turn promotes liberation of cortisol from the adrenal glands, to support the body in stressful conditions.

Also in this case I recommend taking Ginseng in the morning and at lunch time so as to inform our biological clock about the corroborating integration of this remedy and the consequent reactive adaptation of our metabolism.

Take Ginseng in dry extract: 2 tablets per day (breakfast and lunch).

Ginseng is contraindicated in cases of hypertension, headache, in pregnancy. It could have interactions with anticoagulant drugs.

Gentian Lutea

In the case of drowsiness due to weighting of the gastro-intestinal apparatus and biliary hepate, an interesting remedy is the Genziana Lutea . It is a plant that grows on alpine reliefs and is often used in the preparation of liqueurs, due to its bitter taste.

Its active ingredient is genziopicrin, extracted from the root . It acts on the production of gastric juices and facilitates digestion.

Gentian carries out a slight purifying and laxative action and has antiseptic properties.

It is an effective tonic of the central nervous system, counteracts tiredness and promotes the recovery of energy and mental brilliance. Stimulates the production and circulation of serotonin.

I recommend taking the Genziana Lutea in Mother Tincture, not only for internal use, but also as an invigorating and energizing dissolved in the water of a warm bath (80 drops) .

Take the Gentea Lutea in mother tincture : 30 drops 2 times a day

Gentian lutea is contraindicated in cases of hypertension, gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcer, hiatal hernia.
