Martial arts according to the Korean artist Dk Yoo

Occasionally, martial artists emerge from nothing at all, attracting attention and stimulating the enthusiasm of enthusiasts.

Soon ranks of supporters and detractors are born, immediately rumors circulate that grow in an instant.

Hence the need to contact directly Master DK Yoo, who with his videos has placed himself at the center of international attention thanks to his effectiveness and his control of the body that is expressed in a form of essential and natural elegance. His answers to our questions are also essential and natural ...

Maestro, his fame grew quickly thanks to videos on the internet and social media. However the information on his biography in Italian is rather scarce and often discordant rumors circulate. Would you like to tell us who you are and something about your background? With what spirit did you approach martial arts? What was your journey?

When I was little I had brain surgery in 1988. After the operation I was very weak and my parents advised me to exercise to regain physical and mental strength. Since then I started practicing kung fu, I started having contacts with various masters of multiple martial arts and over the years I have completed my journey.

Many find what she calls the "wave movement" extremely fascinating and interesting. What can you tell us about it?

" Inner wave power " means "vibration of the inner body". Usually the human body uses the strength of external muscles. This method is different, internal power is used (tendons, bones, deep muscular layers) everything starts from the inside of the body. This power is different than the common use of muscle strength, it is a force built, in this way it is possible to move much faster and develop a remarkable power. In the East it is called "qi" or "spirit". This ability can be developed by practicing a certain type of training.

We know that the importance of proper breathing is ignored or underestimated in the martial arts world. What role does he play in his method?

Breathing is very important. Everything starts with a breath while one is born and ends just exhaling one last breath. Breathing is an essential necessity for humans (and others). If you can manage it properly you can live a healthy and comfortable life. For me breathing is a great tool that connects the body to the mind. If well trained, breathing can connect one body and mind and when this happens the movement is free to flow. Only in this way, by combining mind and body through breathing, it is possible to perform certain movements.

What are the philosophical principles (if any) at the root of the wave movement and correct breathing?

Naturalness. You can't breathe artificially. You breathe very naturally. The movement of the forest is also the same, natural. When you connect the movement and breathe naturally, you can make movements like a simple breath. This is the breath. This is the inner wave movement.

In your experience, what is the role of the mind and emotions in optimizing the potential of a martial artist?

Naturalness. The naturalness is the state of highest comfort. Move naturally, think naturally, accept things naturally.

What, in your opinion, is the ideal path of a martial artist? What are the fundamental experiences for a correct formation?

All the moves are actually one. Religion is the same thing. You fight the same thing that is right or not. I respect all martial arts. So many different martial arts practitioners participate in my seminar. Everything depends on what you are looking for. All are good, the important thing is always to give the best of oneself, to work hard. This is my ideal martial art.

Who can benefit from his method and his internships? What can you learn?

There is no condition. Everyone can learn everything I have to offer. Natural movement and natural thought. You can learn the naturalness that does not stick to the results.

Will he return often to Italy or Europe?

I'm running a European tour since May. All seminars are organized in Europe until November of this year. I will continue to hold them until I have the chance. I want to convey my philosophy and my movement to many people, but I want to do it with respect to all martial arts and all philosophies.

We saw a video where he described his lifestyle and diet: no salt, no smoke, no energy drinks, no tattoos, and no coffee. Can you tell us more about it?

I eat everything, everything that does not harm me, I do not destroy my health (smoking, drugs, alcohol). It is best to avoid damaging the body as much as possible, we must preserve health and our body must be in a healthier condition to maintain a healthy mind. So the food that is harmful to us can damage our bodies and our minds.
